New York STEM Education – Mission:
Our mission is to help transform K-12 education through student-centered, inquiry-based and experiential learning. We foster a love of lifelong learning through hands-on STEM/coding creativity for all kids ages 6-14. Our approach to STEM education allows kids to create and problem solve through the implementation of robotic technology, coding, engineering, rocket science, game design, Minecraft and 3D design and more.

Stephen Gilman is the Founder and Executive Director of MakerState. Stephen and his son Ben started MakerState to bring fun STEAM building and learning projects in robotics, coding, game design and more to all kids, schools and communities (STEAM: science, tech, engineering, arts, math).
Stephen’s mission is to help transform K-12 education from lecture-based memorization to student-centered, inquiry-based, experiential learning, empowering our kids with life-transforming passions and creative masteries in 21st skills and 21st century technology.
Stephen is a founding board member of the Urban Assembly Maker Academy, a founder of the Carnegie Learning Center, a founding teacher and dean of Bronx Collegiate, a public school based in Outward Bound experiential learning, and a founding board member of the volunteer network, UlsterCorps.
A veteran 82nd Airborne paratrooper, Stephen is focused on bringing our warriors back into civilian life with a youth-empowering purpose equal to their former missions of national defense. Stephen enjoys historical fiction writing, game design, geocaching, hiking, biking around NYC, and creativity of all kinds, especially if it’s with Ben and his partner Laura.
Pat Craddick is an accomplished professional with over 25 years experience in the nonprofit, philanthropic and corporate financial industries. She is passionate about mission driven community work having achieved impactful results with 9 merit awards for nonprofit excellence, entrepreneurship, and leadership.
As Founder, Executive Director/CEO, and Board Member (2004-2018) of an award-winning nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, Pat successfully mobilized a grassroots movement of over 100 businesses and hundreds of corporate volunteers to help over 16,000 low-income public school parents build financial security to help their children succeed academically. Based in New York City public schools, the organization served these families with holistic workforce educational programs, connected them to hundreds of jobs, improved their financial literacy, and received 16 honorary and merit awards under her leadership.
Having had a remarkably successful track record in the nonprofit industry leading the programmatic, operational, fundraising, marketing communication, and board development mandates of the organization gave Pat a whole new appreciation and a unique perspective of the intricacies of nonprofits. This priceless experience has paved the way to who she is today — a seasoned and knowledgeable nonprofit professional.
Prior to starting her nonprofit, she worked on Wall Street as a financial services professional at large institutional investment companies in a variety of positions ranging from portfolio management, institutional client services, and training/development.
An avid lifetime learner, Pat is actively involved in Toastmasters International holding a leadership position as Vice President of Education at a local New York Chapter. Additionally, she served in various capacities on nonprofit boards and volunteered for many causes over the years.
Pat has a Master’s Degree in Nonprofit Management, Fundraising, and Philanthropy from New York University (NYU) and a Bachelor’s Degree from Pace University. In addition, she has done post graduate studies at Columbia University and holds professional certifications in financial portfolio management, training and development, and project management.
